    Club History
Our Club is one of the oldest Lions Clubs in Florida. Almost from the beginning, we have honored the Lions motto of "We Serve" by providing for the community a Sight Clinic, which is now located in the Sunshine Center, 330 - 5th Street North, St. Petersburg [Tel. (727) 893-7152]. Persons in need can apply at the Sight Clinic for free eye examinations and eye care. Please contact the Clinic Manager to complete an application for our review and consideration if you need eye care and can not afford it. If you would like to donate your used eyeglasses to the Lions for re-processing for use by people in third world countries, you may drop them off at our Clinic at any time. We have erected an old mailbox outside the Clinic building and painted it with the Lions name and information. It is used solely for collection of used eyeglasses (No mail, please). We thank you for the donation of your used eyeglasses.
In 1966, our Club established a charitable foundation known as ST. PETERSBURG LIONS FOUNDATION, INC. This Foundation is a non-profit corporation recognized by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a §501(c)(3) exempt entity, and all donations to it are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. We wish to thank all persons who have contributed to our Club and Foundation over the years, and especially wish to thank those of you who have included the Lions in your estate plans. It is through the selfless acts of you individuals that our Club and Foundation is able to undertake the many worthwhile charitable programs and events we sponsor each year.
Our Club is proud to work with the City of St. Petersburg to co-sponsor the Annual Santa Claus Parade, held on the first Saturday morning in December. In 2001, the former co-sponsor of the parade did not wish to continue and the City could not find anyone else who was interested in undertaking the task. The parade was going to be cancelled after almost 75 years. Since our Club had for many years had an entry in the parade at which we handed out candy to the crowd, we hated to see this tradition die out from lack of community support. Our Club then stepped up and agreed to co-sponsor the event, thus making sure that the children (of all ages) would have a parade to introduce Santa Claus for the holiday season. We are again the co-sponsor of the parade in 2004, with the name now being the St. Petersburg Lions Santa Parade. We hope to continue to co-sponsor this parade for years to come. If you are in St. Petersburg on parade day, please bring your folding chairs (better yet, rent a bleacher seat from one of our Leo Clubs and support their work) and come to the parade to cheer us on. We just love a parade, don't you?
We are very proud that Past President Louis Cantrell has been elected as Vice District Governor of MD 35-R for 2002-2003. We look forward to working with him as District Governor during 2003-2004 and know that his year as District Governor will be outstanding.
    Leo Club Sponsorship
Our Club is also proud to be the sponsor of 4 Leo Clubs, which are service clubs established for the benefit of high school students. These Clubs are located at Admiral Farragut Academy, Shorecrest Preparatory School, Gibbs High School, and Boca Ceiga High School all in St. Petersburg. We work with the Leos to help them accomplish their goals of service, and we really appreciate their help on many of our programs. If you see Leo members doing something nice to help the community, please thank them and congratulate them on their service to others.
